Unto the least of these...

3/6/2019

A Message from the Sr. Warden:

Most of us have heard that passage from Matthew 25 where Christ is teaching in parables right before his fateful visit to Jerusalem. People are asking him all sorts of questions about the Kingdom of Heaven and listening to his responses. Verse 40 ends with the words, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.'

St. Bart's congregation has always done outreach ministries both big and small. Let me tell you about one that another church is doing that we can help with. The Church of St. Jude (Episcopal) in Wantagh NY in the Diocese of Long Island has a ministry called "Mother and Child." They try to provide basic necessities to the families they serve. My friend, who is the Rector there, sent out a plea after a recent day in which 20 families (83 people) showed up in need of everyday living necessities from toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, paper towels, toilet paper and diapers to women's feminine hygiene products and baby food.

We can help them! There will be a cash/check collection for the Sundays during Lent. Checks should be made payable to the Rector's Discretionary Fund and marked "NY Outreach." Jim Sale tells me it's less costly to order things from Amazon Prime and let them pay the shipping, so that's what we'll do. I have their Amazon wish list.

If you have questions, I will be glad to answer them (unless the question is "how do you pronounce 'Wantagh'.")
