JOB POSTING: Interim Music Director/Organist

10/2/2021

St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 10627 Patterson Ave, Henrico, VA 23238

Job Posting For Interim Music Director / Organist Part-Time

St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in the West End of Richmond, Virginia, is seeking an Interim Music Director/Organist.

It is our intention, however, to create a permanent position, but an interim position would be acceptable at this time. The Interim Music Director/Organist would be eligible to apply for the permanent position.

As a result of the pandemic, our worship is currently much restricted and, in the short term, the Music Director’s duties will be:

  • Providing music for one service on Sundays and other Holy Day Observances (Sunday is currently at 10:00am)
  • Maintaining links with choir members and other musicians
  • Rehearsing choir members, when that is possible
  • Coordinating other musical work, in consultation with the Rector.
  • Experience or knowledge in the broadcasting of the services would be beneficial

In more normal times, the Music Director serves as the principal musician of the church, providing leadership, management and coordination of the music program for the parish. Candidates for this position must be able to work collaboratively with the Rector, choir, other musicians, vestry, and members of the congregation at large. In addition, the Music Director also serves as Organist.

Our vision for our permanent Music Director is an individual that will grow our music program in new ways, while holding true to our Episcopal and parish traditions.

Since the current role is limited by the pandemic, we are looking at paying the Interim as a long-term supply organist, and renegotiating that when the opportunities to develop the role become possible.

St. Bartholomew's has a Viscount Chorum 60 DLX Organ. For information about the organ go to our website at: stbartsrichmond.org and/or to: https://www.viscountinstruments.com/instrument/chorum-60/
