PART-TIME

 

St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, a parish in suburban Richmond, Virginia, is seeking a Music Director. The Music Director serves as the principal musician of the church, providing leadership, management and coordination of the music program for the parish. Candidates for this position must be able to work collaboratively with the rector, choirs, vestry, and members of the congregation at large. In addition, the music director also serves as Organist/pianist. Our vision for our next Music Director is an individual that will grow our music program in new ways while holding true to our Anglican and parish traditions. This is a part-time position (average 4 to 5 hours per week) with salary commensurate with skills and experience. The only benefit offered with the position is two weeks of paid vacation.

Job description

 

Title:  Parish Music Director

 Reports to: Parish Rector

Employment classification: Regular, part-time, exempt

Goal: To develop and lead the worship music ministry in consultation with the Rector, in a way that is consistent with our mission, values, and theology.

 

Duties:

  • Select and plan music for Sunday 10:30 worship service, the Easter Vigil, “Lessons and Carols” service, Christmas    Eve services and other special services in consultation with the Rector. 
  • Direct, motivate, supervise and shepherd volunteer musicians and volunteer adult choir members. 
  • Lead weekly evening choir practice and play at 10:30 worship service every Sunday. Personal practice as needed.

Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Music or equivalent experience. 
  •    Proficient with organ and piano. 
  •    Ability to organize, coordinate, and motivate musicians and choir members.
  •  Strong leadership abilities. 
  •  Dependable, responsible, self-motivated and creative. 
  •  Ability in wide range of styles including Christian classics (hymns) and contemporary music.
